Please help us protect others from getting ripped off.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Washington, DC, August 20, 2024 \u2014 Nonprofits Toxin Free USA and Beyond Pesticides filed a lawsuit against Saatva, Inc., a bedding manufacturer, alleging deceptive marketing of its crib mattresses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Saatva represents its products as \u201cnontoxic,\u201d \u201csafe,\u201d \u201cnatural,\u201d and \u201ceco-friendly.\u201d The product description also says that \u201cit gives you peace of mind as your baby is cradled in soothing comfort.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Toxin Free USA facilitated lab testing of the crib mattress and detected eight PFAS chemicals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PFAS are a class of toxic chemicals that studies have linked to many diseases, decreased fertility, birth defects, and developmental effects. PFAS, also known as \u201cforever chemicals\u201d, do not break down naturally in the environment, bioaccumulate in humans, and can be harmful at levels in the parts per trillion. A study <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S0160412024003581\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">published<\/a> May 2024 confirmed that PFAS can be absorbed through human skin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt is unethical to falsely advertise that a mattress for infants is nontoxic, natural and safe when it exposes them to eight harmful PFAS chemicals. Parents pay a premium for Saatva crib mattresses because they think the mattresses are safe and healthy for their babies. Putting infants at risk to boost profits is unconscionable,\u201d said Diana Reeves, Executive Director of Toxin Free USA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIf we are going to solve the existential health, biodiversity, and climate crises that threaten a sustainable future, it is critical that companies are honest about embracing meaningful solutions that are \u201cnontoxic,\u201d \u201csafe,\u201d \u201cnatural,\u201d and \u201ceco-friendly,\u201d said Jay Feldman, Executive Director of Beyond Pesticides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The lawsuit, filed under the D.C. Consumer Protection Procedures Act, seeks to end Saatva\u2019s deceptive marketing.
