Created in 1948, IUCN is the world\u2019s largest and most diverse environmental network, harnessing the knowledge, resources and reach of more than 1,400 member organizations and 15,000 scientists and experts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Watch the YouTube video to witness <strong>the life cycle and metamorphosis of the monarch and why milkweed plants are critically important<\/strong>. What is twerking?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-md-font-size\">\u201c<em>Twerking is a type of dance that came out of the bounce music scene of New Orleans in the late 1980s and involves throwing or thrusting the hips back or shaking the buttocks, often in a low squatting stance.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Monarch Caterpillar Turns into a Chrysalis Real-Time (The Twerking Caterpillar)\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Jtwh0MSAUyU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>We need to follow appreciation with advocacy and action if we\u2019re going to preserve the monarchs so their beauty and pollination services can be enjoyed for generations to come.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>It\u2019s going to take systemic change to reduce the threats to this iconic butterfly.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Urge the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to list the monarch butterfly under the Endangered Species Act and afford the monarchs the protections they need to survive. <a href=\"https:\/\/toxinfreeusa.org\/take-action\/\/monarch-butterflies-endangered\">CLICK TO TAKE ACTION<\/a> <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Tell your U.S. Senators to support and pass the Protect America\u2019s Children from Toxic Pesticides Act (PACTPA) which would ban some widely used synthetic pesticides, including neonicotinoid insecticides that harm the monarch and other important pollinators. <a href=\"https:\/\/toxinfreeusa.org\/take-action\/ban-toxic-pesticides\/\">CLICK TO TAKE ACTION<\/a> <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Tell the EPA to ban glyphosate, its widespread use decimates the milkweed that monarch adults lay their eggs on and provides the only food the caterpillars need to survive. <a href=\"https:\/\/toxinfreeusa.org\/take-action\/ban-glyphosate\">CLICK TO TAKE ACTION<\/a> <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>More that you can do as an individual\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Don\u2019t use synthetic pesticides (herbicides, insecticides and fungicides).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Plant native milkweed in your yard. It\u2019s important to plant only native varieties. Find your native milkweed varieties<a href=\"https:\/\/xerces.org\/milkweed\/milkweed-guides\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> HERE.<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reduce your lawn size and plant more native blooming plants instead. Plant native, nectar-rich flowers to provide food for adult butterflies. For a list of native plants that host butterflies and moths specific to your zip code, use this<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nwf.org\/nativeplantfinder\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Native Plant Finder.<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Speak with your city council and encourage your local government to support monarchs and other pollinators.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Become a registered, certified Monarch Waystation.
